Lucy was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. Her grandmother taught her how to sew at an early age and through her childhood Lucy often found herself designing and sewing clothes and costumes. Lucy quickly fell in love with theatrical costuming as a teenager after designing her high school’s fall musical and competing in costume competitions via her local Thespian society. After graduating high school Lucy went to the University of Southern Mississippi with the goals of becoming a professional theatrical costumer early on. Lucy began working professionally in theatre as a stitcher, wardrobe technician, and as a costume design assistant during college on summer breaks. She graduated with honors and immediately went into freelancing where she worked as a costume design assistant, wardrobe supervisor, stitcher, and designer; she regularly took gigs at Shakespeare & Company in western Massachusetts and The Rev Theatre in upstate New York. Lucy eventually made her way to west coast to work at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where she was hired as a wardrobe technician and over the coarse of three years received three promotions, including her promotion to wardrobe supervisor. While working at OSF full time, Lucy also took costume design contracts and stylist gigs. Lucy is now based in Portland, OR.
In her spare time Lucy can be found studying herbalism, reading a zine or comic book or one of her favorite African American authors, engaging with her union and other mutual aid organizers, hanging out with her cat Nutmeg, engaging in anti-racist/anti-sexist discourse, trying out a new recipe, gardening, stargazing, or hiking.
